A Fashionable but apt, Phrase

Andrew J Smaldone

Exhibition at number 5 GmbH

05/2008

In Andrew Smaldone’s ink drawings architectural interiors are used as a framework in which to explore the passing of time while tonal variation strongly evoke processes of remembering. Processes that often lead to the complete failure to define a clear or truthful picture of an event that has taken place. As such, Smaldone realistically depicts an interior from several different perspectives and also repeatedly as a means to emphasize fluctuations of mood, and emotion. A Fashionable but apt, Phrase, therefore, becomes a means to play with the potential of the falsehood of memory and the dialectical tension between personal and collective points of view.
